While researching a blog post for www.vote4change.info on our inalienable rights, wanting to know more about the broader context, I reread The Declaration of Independence.
As we all know, It was drafted to demand emancipation from the king of England’s tyrannical rule over our colonies. As I read this sacred document, I was struck with multiple glaring similarities with America today 200+ years later.
Let’s start with my original inquiry inalienable rights.
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed, by their Creator, with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness."
A rise in Red state laws across our country mainly targeting voting rights threatens the bedrock of our democracy. The GOP hasn’t stopped there; women’s reproductive freedom, marriage equality, and LGBTQ+ rights are in the crosshairs.
Perfect Storm
Trumpism is putting our beloved democracy in peril. An incredibly dangerous perfect storm is brewing. One where republican controlled state legislators enacting laws stripping civil liberties are being upheld by Trump appointed conservative judges. Now thanks to Trump we a 6-3 conservative Supreme Court who eradicated Roe v Wade. A move that can further enshrine state level right wing ultra conservative legislation.
A vote to re-elect Donald Trump will put us right back under the very same tyrannical rule that our colonists shed blood to create this great country.
Don’t be fooled by “I will only be a dictator on day one”
